Meet the Magences

Rabbi Avishai Magence was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel. After high school, he studied at the Hesder Yeshiva in Nahariya in northern Israel. As part of the Hesder program, he served in the IDF as a combat unit soldier in the Golani infantry battalion.

After the army, Avishai spent two years studying and teaching at a religious Zionist kollel in Nes Tziona. From there, he moved to Alon Shvut where Avishai joined Yeshivat Har Etzion and received semicha from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, Rav Shlomo Levi and Rav Yosef Zvi Rimon.

Avishai earned his Bachelor of Education degree from Jerusalem's Lifshitz College and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Translation Studies from Bar-Ilan University.

Avishai passionately loves reading biographies, especially those of Jewish scholars, and the writings of S.Y. Agnon.

Nomi Magence was born in New Jersey but raised in Israel from the early age of one and a half. Nomi earned her BS in Nutrition from Hebrew University. She also spent time in the Metivtah program at Bar-Ilan, which offers advanced Jewish studies for women.

Nomi is both a certified Kalla teacher from the Women’s Beit Midrash in Gush Etzion and an aerobics instructor from Wingate Institute in Israel. These in no way interfere with her passion for baking cookies and cakes. Be warned: the fact that a dietitian baked the cookies doesn't necessarily make them healthy!
